Weird Laws -

Weird Laws in W.A. that have been repealed.

1. To be in possession of over 50kg of potatoes without having bought them from an authorised agent.

2. Evil fame. Used to charge someone just on suspicion of doing something.

3. Men and women had to swim on beaches in separate areas.

4. Flying kites in a public place was illegal.

5. Could not play cricket on the road.

6. Riding a bicycle without hands on the handlebars.

7. Could not dust, beat or sweep your carpet in a public street.

8. Knocking on doors without a legal excuse.

9. Could not discharge a canon within 300 yards of a dwelling.

10. No dogs in public gardens or parks.

11. Not allowed to sing obscene songs in public.

12. Not allowed to throw dead animals into waterways.

13. Not allowed to be idle or disorderly in the street.

14. Rain not allowed to fall from edges of buildings on to pathways.

15. Caned for laziness.

16. Aboriginal people were not allowed in Perth without employment or written permission.

The following laws may still be in effect.

1. Cannot remove seabird or bat poo without a license.

2. Cannot bet with a friend on the result of a state election.

3. Cannot sneak a peek at someones ballot paper.

4. A candidate for an election cannot promote themselves on licensed premises.

5. Disrupting parliament can lead to a large fine or imprisonment.

6. Public entertainment or amusement to earn money is prohibited on a Sunday, Christmas Day or Good Friday.

7. Refusing to help a Fisheries officer could lead to a big fine.

8. Challenging someone to a duel could lead to a 2 year prison sentence.

9. It is illegal to steal a pigeon but only if it is tame, located in a pigeon house and on the owner’s land.
