WEIRD LAW -

At the time of writing this, it is actually illegal to be in possession of more than 50kg of potatoes unless they are obtained from a grower authorised the the Potato Board (which no longer exists.)

Thanks to the insanity that was The Potato Marketing board, this law has been on the books since 1946.

Fines for this offence can be up to $2000 for a first offence and $5000 for subsequent offences.

Other crazy laws that have been enacted in W.A. include clearing seabird of bat poo without a license, Do that and the penalty is up to a year in jail. (Section 387, Criminal Code Act 1913)

Betting with a mate over the result of a state election can apparently result in a fine of $1000.

Disrupting parliament can result in prison time up to 3 years or a $12,000 fine.

Paid entertainment is prohibited on Sundays, Christmas Day or Good Friday according to a piece of legislation from 1979.

If a Fisheries officer asks for your help, you had better think before refusing. If the assistance required is 'reasonably necessary' and you don't help, then you could be clobbered with a fine of up to $10,000.

Fisheries officers also have the power to seize cars, boats, aircraft, money, fish and fishing gear if they believe and offence has been committed.

Disclaimer: At the time of writing we are aware that these laws have existed and may still be on the books but it is possible that some have been repealed.
