MUNGLINUP

DESCRIPTION

 

Munglinup is essentially a roadhouse on the South Coast Highway and is located between Esperance and Ravensthorpe.  

A good campsite exists 32 km south on the coast at Munglinup Beach. The campsite is off Springdale Rd. which can be reached from either Fuss Rd. east of Munglinup or Doyal Rd. to the west.  

There are several very good campsites in this area including Starvation Bay and Mason's Bay, Alexander Bay, Quagi Beach, Fanny Cove, Woody Island Eco Stays, Benwenerup camping area and Skippy Rock.  

Starvation Bay tends to be crowded during much of the best weather.

 

HISTORY

 

Farming opened up the area during the 1950s.  

The name is Aboriginal in origin but the meaning is unknown. It first appeared on maps in 1868. The site was gazetted in 1962.
