CARRABIN

DESCRIPTION

 

Carrabin is situated between Merredin and Southern Cross.

 

Its main functions are as a refuelling stop on the Great Eastern Highway and a wheat receival centre.

 

It is the half-way mark between Perth and Kalgoorlie.

 

The Roadhouse is open from 6am to 8pm and provides meals, has 5 motel rooms with ensuites and the caravan park has 10 van sites with some shade and a grassed area with BBQ.

 

HISTORY

 

The town site was gazetted in 1912 and took its name from an existing railway siding. The word is of Aboriginal origin but the meaning has been lost in time.
