Located 150km east of Port Hedland on the Great Northern Highway (13km access via Cape Keraudren Access Road), this 4,800-hectare coastal reserve offers a secluded nature retreat. Vested in the Shire of East Pilbara in 1985, the reserve balances recreation with conservation, protecting its rich ecosystems.
The cape forms the western edge of Eighty Mile Beach and eastern boundary of the Pilbara Coast.
It features coral reefs, sponge gardens, seagrass beds, and thriving marine/terrestrial wildlife.
The cape was named after the French naval physician Pierre Keraudren, it was charted during the 1801 Baudin expedition.
The cape also marks the northern end of Western Australia’s Rabbit-Proof Fence.
The area is ideal for fishing, crabbing, and off-grid camping, the reserve provides:
Designated campsites (28-day stay limit within 3 months).
* Basic facilities: toilets, rubbish bins, fish-cleaning stations (clean after use).
* No electricity or water (nearest water supply is at Pardoo Roadhouse, 13km east).
* Strict low-impact rules to preserve the environment include:
* Camp only in marked areas
* Drive at 25kph or less on access roads (stay on tracks)
* Keep pets on a leash at all times
* Use bins and do not put chemical toilet waste in composting toilets
* No off-road driving
* No littering
