DESCRIPTION
This is essentially a roadhouse between Geraldton and Carnarvon. The name comes from Binnu Well a couple of kilometres east of the current location. The name is Aboriginal but it is unsure whether it means 'to squeeze' or 'place of emus'. Maybe it means place to squeeze emus.
There is a campsite on the coast west of Binnu West Road at Lucky Bay. Finding it is not simple but the GPS turn off location from George Grey Drive on to Balline Rd. is : 28 03 21.73 S 114 11 27.44 E and the shacks are located at : 28 02 57.05 S 114 09 48.91 E.
Binnu is one of the many wheat receival centres in W.A. and a large wheat silo dominates the settlement. Drought, salinity and occasional mouse plagues are just some of the problems faced by farmers in this area.
HISTORY
The townsite was gazetted in 1932.
